Swinburne journalism graduate Rachel Hayter was nominated for a national journalism award less than a year after graduation.
Rachel, a finalist in the Australian Commercial Radio Awards, was nominated in the Best News Presenter, Country and Provincial, while working at Radio Goulburn – the job she obtained just two weeks after returning from an ACICIS internship in Indonesia.
Her success was publicised on Swinburne’s Tumblr site, and she was thrilled at the encouragement and recognition both she and her station received for her efforts.
“I’m responsible for directing, producing, writing and reading 13 bulletins a day, five days a week,” she said.
Rachel attributed her success to the skills she learned at Swinburne and her own efforts to build on them with numerous internships.
Queensland presenters won the awards category, but Rachel has been rewarded with promotion– she has just moved to Canberra as breakfast newsreader with 2CA/2CC Radio Canberra.
